Registering with a new GP
While it’s easy to get caught up in the fun of Freshers Week, meeting your new flatmates and starting your course, we’re here to remind you of the boring (but necessary!) bits that you need to get on top of early.
We strongly recommend that you sign up to a GP in Brighton for your stay. This makes getting an appointment, getting your prescriptions and keeping well so much easier. Signing up as a temporary resident at your University GP surgery allows you to see a local GP during term-time but also to stay registered with your GP Practice at home – the best of both worlds!
- For Sussex students, you can register with The Univeristy of Sussex Health Centre which is located on Campus.
- For Brighton students, you can register with one of many GPs
- New Larchwood and Carden Surgery– New Larchwood surgery is 5 minutes walk from Varley Park halls of residence
- Stanford Medical Centre ,
- Moulsecoomb Medical Centre, or
- St Peter’s Medical Centre
What does Coldean Pharmacy offer for students?
The main thing we want to alert you to is the importance of nominating a new pharmacy to deal with your medications. Please remember to nominate a pharmacy otherwise your prescriptions will be sent electronically to your pharmacy back home. We’re sure the last thing you want is to be running out of your medication and having to scramble to get things sorted. Registering with Coldean Pharmacy will allow you to stay on top of your prescriptions. We are just a 5 minute walk from Varley Halls. We also offer a free delivery service to those who can’t get to us, we are sure that you will benefit from nominating us as your elective pharmacy. We aspire to deliver a professional, efficient and friendly service to all of our customers. We pride ourselves on inclusion and respect for all. Our many years of experience and excellent reviews are testament to the fact that we are a great pharmacy to use during your time at university.
We have years of experience in dispensing medication for both NHS and private prescriptions. Unlike online pharmacy services, we aim to have your medication ready for collection or delivery on the same day that we receive the prescription. This means no more waiting for delivery or paying for postage! If we haven’t got your item in stock, we will always do our best to order the item in for the next day. So you won’t have to wait long for your medication to be ready. The quickest way to request your repeat prescription is to log on to the NHS App and request them digitally – this is much quicker and more convenient than any other method.
We offer non-judgemental and professional Sexual health services where you will be given a safe space for discussion in private with a pharmacist. We give out chlamydia test kits for both sexes, and are part of the C-Card Scheme providing free condoms to keep you safe while at university. We also offer free emergency hormonal contraception (the morning after pill) ? which can be taken either up to 72 or 120 hours after unprotected sex.
We also offer a private Travel Clinic service for any holidays you have coming up, as well as free stop smoking services with trained members of staff to counsel you and help you quit smoking once and for all.
